Our Deacons

Jesus calls qualified men to lead His church as deacons, a word that is literally translated as “servants.”

The office of deacon is first mentioned in Acts 6. As the burden of ministry grew for the early church, elders - in addition to leading, prayer, study, and teaching - were also taking on large workloads to serve the needy in the church and handle the administrative functions of the church. As a solution, the elders appointed deacons to assist the elders in these responsibilities.

At Spring Creek, deacons assist elders in the day-to-day functions of church activity and administration. Qualifications for deacons are found in 1 Timothy 3 and include integrity, generosity, soberness, a clear understanding of the Bible, a well-ordered home, and a good reputation both inside and outside the church.

  • Ray Bean

My name is Ray Bean, and I was introduced to church and Jesus through friends in 1979. As I matured in the word, I gained a relationship with Christ and became faithful to Him. I've attended Spring Creek and have been a member since 1979. I've been married to my wife, Christina, for 44 years, and we have 3 children: Travis; Randi; Jessie; and one son who has passed, Ray Eddie. My interests include spending time with my 9 grandchildren and fishing.

15 years ago, I became an elder at Spring Creek due to my desire to serve the Lord and meet the needs in the church. I'm also serving as a small group leader, running the visuals during service, and helping prepare and serve communion. As an elder, my hope is to see Spring Creek grow in maturity more than in numbers.  I'd like to see teachers preparing others to teach, and I pray that it brings more people to Christ.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is John 15:16: "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you."  God loves us and has chosen us to do His will.
